Pride and Prejudice  

Main Ideas:

Character Analysis:

Pride and Prejudice is a story about a family with 5 children, all single unwed women, that are trying to find a husband. These girls are lonely and are pressured to find a suitable man for a husband.
After a rich bachelor, Mr. Bingley invites the girls to a ball, and dances with one of the daughters, Jane, a large amount of drama and class discrimination happens between the two families.
Elizabeth: The protagonist of the story, is extremely quick witted and smart. But, she is a bit hasty to judge others, and this sometimes gets her in trouble. 
Darcy: The male counterpart to Elizabeth, he is also very smart and quick to judge. His wealth and his ego make him feel unreadable in the beginning of the story, but as it progresses you understand him a lot more.

Themes:

There are many themes in Pride and Prejudice. The title it’s self has two of them. Others include Love and Class. The entire book the women are looking for husbands to love and take care of them. But, class differences keep some of them apart.

Symbols:

There are very few symbols in Pride and Prejudice. But, one that does stand out is the Darcy estate, Pemberley. It symbolizes Elizabeth's feelings for Darcy. As she grows to enjoy the estate more, she also grows to enjoy Darcy himself.
